Just moved? Rekey before you unpack

You have no way of knowing how many keys to your new front door exist. Previous owners, tenants, cleaners and contractors may all have one.

Rekey or replace?

Rekeying changes the pins inside the cylinder so old keys stop working. The handles and deadbolts stay. Replace only when a lock sticks, is damaged, or you want a keypad or smart lock.

Get one key for the whole house

Front door, back door and garage entry can usually be rekeyed to the same key, provided they share a keyway.

Renting?

Check the lease first. Most landlords are happy with a rekey if they get a copy of the new key.
